TRANSBORO

Pioneering Innovation in Cancer Treatment

Brick42 is proud to be a key partner in TRANSBORO, a groundbreaking cross-border initiative under the Interreg VI-A Italy-Switzerland 2021-2027 Programme. This collaboration unites top institutions from Italy and Switzerland to revolutionize oncology through cutting-edge Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT).

Our Role in TRANSBORO

As core partners, Brick42 and Exeris Bio are accelerating the journey from science to patient outcomes by:

  • Developing innovative boron-based compounds to enhance BNCT effectiveness.
  • Pioneering nanoparticle formulations for targeted boron delivery to cancer cells.
  • Providing scalable production and regulatory expertise to support research advancement.

What Is Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT)?

BNCT is an advanced, highly targeted form of radiotherapy designed to destroy cancer cells while sparing healthy tissue. It works in two stages:

  • Boron Delivery: Patients receive a non-radioactive boron-10 (^10B) compound, which selectively accumulates in cancer cells.
  • Neutron Irradiation: The affected area is exposed to low-energy neutrons. When these neutrons collide with boron-10 atoms, a nuclear reaction releases high-energy alpha particles and lithium nuclei, causing lethal damage to cancer cells with minimal harm to surrounding tissue.

Our Partners in Innovation

The TRANSBORO project brings together renowned scientific and industrial collaborators:

  • University of Eastern Piedmont (UPO): Lead research institution
  • University of Pavia (UNIPV): Neutron irradiation testing expert
  • Brick42 SA: Developer and supplier of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs)
  • Exeris Bio SA: Pharmaceutical R&D and public dissemination partner

Project Co-Funding

The project is co-funded by Brick42 SA, Exeris Bio SA, and:

  • Interreg VI-A Italy-Switzerland Programme
  • European Union (Lombardia and Piemonte regions)
  • Canton Ticino, Switzerland
